Meet the Team: Amanda Matthews
To give clients a greater insight into what we do, we regularly feature interviews with members of the HR:4UK team.
This month we catch up with Sales and Marketing Co‐ordinator Amanda Matthews who will be celebrating 10 years with the firm next year.
Sales and Marketing Co‐ordinator Amanda Matthews loves the variety her job brings – and that includes leaving the office occasionally and spending time with the people we look after.
Amanda’s time is taken up with marketing and promoting the business in many ways, including increasing our online presence.
As part of this role she has been attending several training courses to enhance her knowledge on social media and SEO.
She posts on all our social media accounts every day and is tasked with generating more traffic flow from these channels to our website.
Amanda also updates our website with new content and news items every month as well as coordinating the monthly newsletter and publishing the articles on our site.
Amanda added: “For any exhibitions we are attending, I get involved in organising the logistics of the event from HR:4UK’s point of view as well as going along and representing the firm. I also liaise with all our new clients as part of the on‐boarding process.
“We attended SME Live at the NEC and The Business Show at London ExCel last year, which is a great way of meeting businesses who might want to outsource their services to us. This year the focus is to attend more local business exhibitions.”
HR:4UK provides free HR assistance on behalf of the National Federation of SubPostmasters (NFSP), and as part of her role, Amanda handles every administrative aspect of Subpostmasters’employment contracts.
In the past few weeks she’s attended Post Office events in Bolton, Leeds and Belfast, and met some of the many subpostmasters she talks to regularly as part of the membership service we deliver for NFSP.
Amanda is now busy preparing for the next big Post Office event – the NFSP’s National Conference in Stratford‐upon‐Avon in mid‐April.
Amanda added: “I enjoy getting out and meeting people. Liaising with NFSP members is a key part of my role but we rarely get chance to meet in person, so it’s good to be able to put a face to a name. There is one subpostmaster I’ve been talking to regularly on the phone for nearly nine years, but we had no idea what each other looked like until last week!
Fortunately, handling a varied workload which requires great people skills, close attention to detail and working to tight deadlines, holds no fears for Amanda.
After graduating from Teesside University with a BA Honours degree in Public Administration and Management, she worked for the Evening Gazette newspaper in Middlesbrough for 10 years as both a page planner and proof reader.
She said: “As a page planner responsible for more than one newspaper title, I had two constantly ringing phones on my desk and worked long hours to get the papers out.
“Even now I find it hard to let a phone ring more than twice without answering it.”
Although Amanda enjoyed her time in the North East, she’s pleased to be back in her home town Hinckley in Leicestershire where she lives with husband Steve.
She added: “It’s nice to have returned to the place where I grew up and to work locally. We’re a rugby household – Steve’s a big rugby fan – and we play squash together at Hinckley Squash Club.
She said “I really enjoy my job at HR:4UK and the variety it brings, no two days are ever the same.”
