New Statutory Carer’s Leave Policy
From 6 April 2024, there is a new statutory right to carer’s leave, as outlined in the Carer’s Leave Act 2023 and further detailed in the Carer’s Leave Regulations 2024. This progressive change signals a new era of support for employees shouldering caring responsibilities, ensuring they receive the leave they need from day one of their employment.
What This Means for You and Your Team:
Immediate Eligibility: From their first day, employees can avail themselves of carer’s leave, ensuring support is available when needed most.
Privacy and Respect: In keeping with our values of respect and confidentiality, evidence of the caring situation will not be required.
Focus on Dependents: This leave is dedicated to caring for dependents with significant health or disability needs, highlighting our commitment to those in our lives who need us most.
Equitable Support: Regardless of the number of dependents, eligible employees can take up to one week of leave annually, ensuring fair support across the board.
Flexibility in Care: Recognising the diverse needs of caring roles, this policy does not limit the activities for which carer’s leave can be used.
Adaptable Leave Options: With provisions for half-day leaves, we embrace the need for flexibility in balancing work and caring responsibilities.
